Best way to fix it is to replace it.
I had not the correct tool or even knew what the correct tool is and took the car to a shop to replace the Timing belt and Water pump. The shop folk replaced my supplied Drivebelt Tensioner at no additional charge since as they said "We're gonna be in the area anyways".

Talked to 2 mechanics that I trust about doing it myself and both said, knowing my abilities to fix cars, that I'd best leave it to them. Just got my girlfriends water pump on her '94 Sunbird LE 2 liter replaced and after all the research I did I'm glad I didn't do it.

First thing, if your belt seems soft or sloppy when you push on it or if it bounces at an idle. When you start/drive you will get a slight knocking sound between 900-1200 RPM that's the internal spring on the tensioner. To fix this you have to go to a dealer and get the replacement supercharger tensioner. The main tensioner in the back near the firewall is easy to find at auto zone or o'reilly auto parts. The idler pulley is a lot easyer to check. Take your accessory belt off of the idler pulley and try to move it, if theres ANY slop it needs to be replaced.

you dont fix serpentine belts. you replace them. open hood, although it is easier to reach the belt tensioner from under the car, you will need to route the belt from above. Take the tension off the belt tensioner (a breaker bar or rachet and the proper size socket with a pipe to give ya more leverage should work) and pull the belt while the tensioner is pulled away from the belt. to put new belt on, properly follow accesorie pulleys with new belt, leaving the tensioner pulley last once that far, take your breaker bar or rachet with proper size socket... and pull the tensioner away from the belt so that you can slip the belt over the tensioner, push the belt over pulley. release the tensioner and check to make sure the belt is seated properly on all pulleys. Wahlah
