"Babbit bearings" is a term that was used long ago before engines had fully pressurized lubrication. If an older person heard what sounded like a rod bearing noise in your car that may explain the confusion.

its not a fun job. from underneath the hood between the engine and fire wall is the back side of the inner tie rod. there is a bolt with a safety locking tab you have to bend out to loosen the bolt from the rack. jaybird1980
Is this coming from the engine? If it is it sounds like you might have some lifter problems. Or the worse part is if you have a rod knocking. Intrepids did have some egine problems.
