If it is a matter of the plastic having worn through and detaching from your keyset, you can find plastic covers for some remotes. Another really good option can be found on the web. These leather car remote covers are nice looking, durable and can accomodate various sizes of fobs. Some of these websites also have information about how to deal with corrosion, changing of batteries, and how to disarm typical car alarms should your key fob suddenly fail.
In additon, you can drill a small hole in the corner of the fob away from the buttons to ensure you do not damage any of the internal parts. After drilling the small hole insert a small key ring prior to attaching it to your other keys. I have a Ford and and VW and it has worked great for both brands.

Vw key fob light stays on?
I have a Toyota, and my key fob light stayed on also. I called the dealer, and they said the button on the fob was stuck down INSIDE the fob. So, I simply unscrewed the screw on the back of the fob, opened the fob, then put it back together. The fob was fixed. I didn't have to fix anything in the fob.
