We had the exact same thing happen on our 2003 ford escape. We took it to the repair shop and they discovered that the throttle cable from the actual cruise control unit inside the engine compartment had become disconnected from the throttle body. They put the cruise control's throttle cable back onto the throttle body and it worked just fine. No need to replace any parts, just labor to re-attach. Not sure how it came off, but since yours appears to have done the same; perhaps its just a design flaw. Thus, the cruise control is fully operational (which is why the light on your dash comes on when you engage the cruise control), but it has lost it's ability to actually apply throttle to the engine.

The repair will depend on what part of the cruise control is broken.
The cruise control fuse can be found in the fuse box. The cruise control fuse will be at the bottom of the first column.
the abs/asc (automatic speed control) fuse in the driver kick panel.it is 5 amp fuse third one down from top.works abs & speed control (cruise).this is my guess but not totally sure. I checked all the fuses on mine; all were good. I removed 3 - 5/16" nuts & removed engine cover (top). Found the end of the cruise control cable connector (cheap plastic) had worn through, letting it separate from the throttle stub it connects to. (No cable hooked up?, cruise won't work) I put the connector back on the throttle knob, drilled a small hole in the end of the plastic connector & dropped in a small clip pin (a small cotter pin will work too) in to lock the plastic piece & prevent it from sliding off during acceleration. This in no way affected linkage, etc. & holds the cruise cable connector to the throttle where it belongs. Check this, it's easy to find, & might save you the $40 for a new cruise cable. I have pictures if you need the fix. Good Luck

There is Not unfortunately :(
cruise control not working,u need to check the fuses also check the clutch safety switch as this also has to do with cruise control
If the engine on the Santa Fe is missing, then the cruise control will not operate properly. The engine will have to run properly before the cruise can be fixed.
The cruise is fed by the engine computer. If the engine runs, the fuse is not blown.
I had this same problem with my 2003 Venture. The Cheverolet dealership told me that the cruise contol is directly linked to the brake lights. The simplest and cheapest place to start would be to check your brake lights...if they are not working, you will not have cruise control.
