Remove inner door panel for access and observation
There is a small plastic (nylon?) part in the latch mechanism that breaks. It is meant to deactivate the door lock. When broken, the door remains locked, which is why you can open it with the inner door handle but not the outer one. The latch mechanism is not designed to be serviced, but with some ingenuity it can be disassembled and put back together. I found the pieces of the part in question (sometimes called the "Red Devil" because this part was occasionally made of red plastic. Mine was white like all the other plastic components) lying in the bottom of the door and put it back together with Crazy Glue and drilled holes into which I put steel wire and more Crazy Glue. It's held up for the past 7 months. An excellent link for this process: http://volvospeed.com/Repair/v70latch2.php . From what I've found out, a new latch assembly costs about $135.00. In early 2009 Erie Vovo (that's not a typo) quoted me $75 for a used one with a lifetime warranty.
The problem is that the inside door handle is broken. Although the inside door handle needs replacement you can still open the door by pulling on the lock lever above the handle.
If the door on a 1993 Corsica opens from the inside and not the outside, one issue is likely the problem. The linkage connecting the outside door handle is disconnected or broken. It is also possible that the door lock is faulty.
The rod on the door handle has an adjustment. Remove the door handle and adjust the rod so it pushes the locking device further.
the door on my 94 aerostar only opens from the outside and only if you hold the lock button up on the inside while you pull the handle. it is a pain it the but. i am going to take it apart this weekend and maybe i can help you next week. it is probably just a hook or latch that came off inside the door.
Depends if the door opens outwards or inwards. (Inwards go on inside, outwards on outside).
There is an inside hood handle. The hood opens from the rear
You have to take the inside door panel off and behind it you can see where the inside door handle is connected.Usually to a rod that opens the door.Either the hande has become disconnected or tghe rod is broken or bent.
Using the handle which opens the doors. Instead of pulling it as you do to open, you push it in until it clicks.
Had the same problem on my 1990 s-10 blazer, after pulling the door skin,i found the linkage to inside door handle had bent, just bend it out straighter is all it takes.
You can use a "Jimmy" tool to open the door. The same way a Tow Truck Driver (or a thief) would do it. After you unlock the door with the Jimmy, use the Jimmy to reach the door handle and move it until it opens. Good luck!
Inside the glovebox right hand side a t handle opens the hood.
To make things easier open the door before begining (this is just so it is easier to get at the screws around the inside door pannel). Begin by removing the armrest on the door. to do this i removed the two screws inside of it and pulled it straight up. Remove the door panel by removing the screws allong the edge of the panel. On my Blazer there were three allong the botom edge. when the screws are removed pull up on the entire panel to slide it out of the window area where it is hooked on. be sure to detach any wiring pieces still attached to the panel (these normally have simple male and female plugs connecting them). look in the rear of the door to see if the handle is still attached to the door latch mechanism (this would be a metal bar sticking up from the latch. if not, reatach by using a plastic clip that i got from my local car parts store. If this is not the case, a hinge in the handle may be broken in which case a new handle will need to be installed. You can be sure that it is not the latch mechanism that is broken because the door still opens and closes fine from the inside. You can, from the inside of the door, unbolt the old handle and simply bolt on a new handle.
