How do you fix the fuel gauge and the temperature gauge on a 1991 Ford Ranger?

AnswerIf your fuel guage isn't working, it is probably an indication of a faulty sending unit. You might need to drop the fuel tank, and remove and replace yoour sending unit.

As far as the temperature guage, check your temperature sensor to make sure it is still working.

Ford had a problem with the connectors i their dashboards and gauges. Try to remove the instrument cluster, then remove and re-attach the connectors several times. It has worked every time on my Econolines.

I had a 99 ranger and i ran out of gas twice cause my gauge was off. i heard it was really expensive and a hassel to get it fixed so i just keep track of the mileage and fill up once i get to a certain distance

I my experience with 89 thru 94 it is easier to remove the bed. There are six bolt in the bed and unhook the wiring harness behind the back bumper. This exposes the top of the fuel tank for easy access to install a new fuel pump or a new sending unit.

As I have experienced, the fuel guage sending unit located with the fuel pump in the top of the gas tank must be replaced. The easiest way to get to the tank is to remove the truck bed and there it is. The bed is held on by four bolts and nuts.
