i had this problem with a toshibalaptop i just got but has no workingcdrom or floppy pretty much i justtook the drive out and stuck it intomy other laptop formated and installeddos 6.22 this works easy because dosis very simple you would prob havetrouble installing other OS's.
If you need to install something newerlike 2000 or something your best betwould be to partition the drive into2 the first being a small 5, 10mband then the 2nd being the rest ofthe drives space. install a simpledos onto the first partition thencopy the OS's setup files to the 2ndthen stick it into the computerand when it boots to dos you shouldbe able to run setup.I've never done this but shouldwork with a little bit of finesse
as far as i know there is no wayto format a drive without a osor boot disk. I've heard of a fewmachines that will boot usingthe serial port but i have no ideaif this is true I've never seen thisor researched it. good luck
you can also press F8 or F5 or what ever key to go to safe mode. then it should ask you if want to go into safe mode with MS-DOS. in there type command c:/ then format.
2 things must first be answered: 1. What is the Operating System you are attempting to re-install when the time comes? 2. Do you have the original CD that your PC came with? On just about every restore CD you get with your PC and that is built into Windows OS CD's allows you to boot directly off the CD & run the setup program, which will give you the option to format the hard drive. * I always recommend doing to full format and NOT the quick! Even though it takes FOREVER depending on the size of your hard disk drive. Restart your system during this process hold down ctrl key select command prompt only from post screen in the dos prompt go to win98 backup forder format your c drive hit setup enjoy
The BIOS in most systems allow for a different booting order of devices and drives. Most newly purchased hard drives come with a 3.5" disk which has utilities to format that new drive for use with your system. The disks also generally contain a small operating system on them to allow them to run the program in the first place and recognize the hard drive to be formatted.
Just be sure your 3.5" disk drive is booting before any existing hard drive or CD/DVD/HD drive installed in your system and you should be fine.
From there, it's simply a matter of running the format utility included on the disk, selecting the drive to be formatted, selecting a few options about the format and sitting back while the computer does the rest of the work.
A hard drive must have a disc to function. Please rephrase your question to ask what you want to know.
Place the data disc in the hard drive, go to "my computer" select the hard drive, then right click with your mouse. You will see a number of options including "format". Click on format. Remember to have backed up all your data before formatting or it will be lost.
Hard drive.
If I were going to format and could'nt i would just buy a larger hard drive and replace the old one
Whenever you format a hard disc its size always reduces in size.
The hard drive in a computer is hardware.
"Disc" refers to optical media, such as CDs or DVDs. "Disk" refers to magnetic media, such as hard drives. So the answer depends on which drive you are referring to; most have both an "optical disc drive", and a "hard disk drive".
your hard drive is most likely not formatted. read owners manual on how to format the hard drive. you will lose eerything on the hard drive when you format it.
If you want to format a hard drive where Os was installed there is no way how you can do. It's actually impossible.
hard disc drive
When you format a hard-drive, you will lose any information on that drive.
no
If you format a hard drive that contains Windows, it will be removed. Formatting a drive gets rid of all of the information on it. However, you can right-click your C:/ drive and click format, but it will not allow you if your current OS is running on that drive.
