What will a picture look like on an High Def TV with out High Def signal?

The bottom line on the quallity of your picture is the quality of your input signal. A clear, noiseless, high quality non HD input to a HD TV will look great. (There have been studies which show that non-expert viewers will not readily be able to distinguish high-quality non-HD signals from HD signals). A pasty, lossy, low-quality signal will look terrible whether it is HD or non HD (it may even look worse in HD). A HD TV will usually give you a better picture - whatever the quality of your input signal. But the better your input signal - the more improvement you will see.

Does anyone else feel that HD TV is a scam you have 20-20 vision It doesn't look that much different?

It does look a lot better, but you have to be receiving an HD signal. A regular TV signal on an HD TV looks like a regular TV (except, in all probability, bigger).

When you push the recall button your HDTV shows 480i not 720p or 1080i is this HD programming?

480i is the standard television picture resolution and it isn't an HD signal. Your TV is telling you what it's reading from the signal. You may be able to change it, but then again, it could just be a 480i signal for that particular program. Just because you have HD cable or are getting HD off the air, not every program will be in high definition.

How will the picture from an HDMI cable look if it is used with a 720p lcd tv?

An HD LCD television will be able to handle any HD incoming signal inclusing 720p and 1080i. It will also handle any SD signal. The picture will be as good as the source. If the source is HD, you should expect to see HD quality. If it SD, expect SD quality. The HDMI cable merely passes data from the source to the television and does not affect quality of images.

How do you convert a TV into a 1080p TV?

1080p and 1080i both refer to the format of a video signal. Any HD television will receive the signal and display it. If the television reports the signal standard being received, it will let you know what the signal is. Therefore, the television cannot be changed from one standard to another as it simply handles the incoming signal. Currently, broadcast HD signals are almost exclusively 1080i with a few formatted as 720p. Both are considered full HD even though the resolutions are different. 1080p is found on some local sources such as games consoles and Bluray players but has not yet made it to mainstream broadcast services.
