Check fuses , or bulbs in radio burn out.
splice the blue amp wire on the harness to the power wire, your car came with a factory amp. that will give you sound.
you will need to bypass the amps in the passanger side rear of the vehicle if its the Eddie Bauer edition.
You can find a radio wiring harness for your 1997 Ford at most auto-parts stores. Many electronic stores will also have the radio wiring harness.
The radio is usually supplied power until you open one of the doors. Perhaps what you have is a bad door sensor? Try shutting off the car, and then opening the passenger door and see if it shuts the radio off. If that doesn't fix it, then whatever module the radio is connected to is probably bad.

Eddie Bauer is a trim level that is available on 2 wheel drive , 4 x 4 , or all wheel drive Explorers . The all wheel drive system was available with the 5.0 L (302) V8 engine only. The 6 cylinder Explorers with 4 x 4 system have a rotary dial selector switch for the 4 x 4 system (on 1995 to 2001 4 door models) located in the center stack area of the dash to the left of the radio . On a 2000 Explorer the switch has 4 x 4 auto , high , and low settings. (Helpfull)
Goto the autozone. Get an "OEM Radio Removal tools" by Metra RoadWorks, pn AW-FDRT. This kit consists of two U shaped wire prongs that you insert on the two holes on either side of the face plate. Cost of the kit was a couple of bucks. I suppose you can cut a hanger and bend it into shape, but I was in autozone one day and saw it/bought it.
