My son was sick and had the same problem, we cleaned it with Resolve cleaner and then when it was dry we sprinkled baking soda on the smelly area waited 20 minutes and vacuumed up we repeated that twice and it worked better then anything else! Good luck :)

Perhaps it is a residue as a result of tanning? If the smell is from actual vomit, you might take it to the drycleaners for a cleaning.

Febreeze works. Just test it on a small unnoticeable part of the couch first to check and see it it will stain your couch. If it doesn't then spray the couch, especially the cushions.
They would probably know by the smell. Fake vomit does not smell, even if it does smell, it's not as bad as the really stuff. Ewww.... Ya the fake vomit would probably smell like rubber, while the other one smells just plain nasty. ya what the other person said. ewww.
