There is a similar problem when using clear lacquer. I find that the paint brush, even one with fine hairs, leaves a trail of tiny air bubbles. Most of these come to the surface and pop before the surface sets hard. However, there are always some left - which need to be sanded down with 220 grit sandpaper. And then one starts again! I have tried thinning the lacquer, and this helps a bit. I sometimes use a lint free rag, and dip it in the lacquer. This tends to take off most of the lacquer, but leaves very few bubbbles. Of course the best method is to use a spray can, but that needs a warm, dust free place. That is a problem in the Canadian winter. Using paint spray cans indoors is not welcomed by my wife! I do remember my father French polishing wooden instruments, like violins. He used a tight ball of rag, about the size of a Golf ball. I think he also put a drop of linseed oil on the rag. That was true craftsmanship, but it looks as if that skill has been lost.

Why do bubbles form when you pour a fizzy drink?

The bubbles are made of carbon dioxide which is injected into the Coke under pressure. When the can is opened, this pressure is released and the bubbles come the surface. When poured into a glass or over ice, the bubbles fizz up which is caused by the sudden action of changing temperature and hitting multiple surcfaces. It looks like steam some times because it is cold and causes condensation to occur. It could also be the small bits of coke flying away from the exploding bubbles.
