Just leave it. It will not harm your engine. Make sure your tank is full and drive. The gas will dilute and break down the syrup. Sugar and various other contaminants do no harm to engines, despite common beliefs.

All cars since the early '90 now have a valve in the filler pipe that goes to the gas tank, so that the gas tank can no longer be syphoned out, so you don't need the locking gas cap for that!
