I chewed up part of the lower end of the knob trying to get my answer - it is a 3 sided shaft and inside the tunnel of the knob that goes over the shaft there is a kind of clip -- not so much a clip - but a metal piece that is lodged in that tunnel that is at an angle so it pushes on the shaft but will not "pull" off the shaft. There is a tiny notch at the base of the knob that is for access to depress the "clip" so that the knob will slide off as you pull directly out. Knowing this I still might have trouble getting a tiny screwdriver in the notch to depress the clip the correct way -- but at least knowing the challenge -- how it actually comes off at least you can work at the right problem.

== == == == there should be a small button on top of the switch body. depress the button and the entire stem will pull out. to reinstall, simply push the stem back into the hole and it will lock itself in
