Don't worry about it. If the engine has not been damaged, all you need to do is keep the coolant reservoir full, and run the engine enough to get it hot at which point it will push out a lot of the air. After it cools again, it will pull in the coolant.
Keep the coolant level up by checking it every time you get ready to go somewhere. You'll notice when the coolant level no longer drops.
Note that if the engine has overheated, it could have been damaged. If that happened, there could be a failed head gasket or cracked head. When either of those happen, combustion gas is forced into the coolant space, forcing coolant out of the engine and causing the engine to overheat rapidly. Unfortunately, if that has happened, the only option is to replace the faulty parts and re-surface the head.
Possible air lock in the heating pipes. Common after changing thermostat. look for a bleed screw on the heating pipes between the engine and interior, or loosen one of the heater pipes., after engine has warmed up. Run engine to dislodge trapped air.
If the engine is overheating, the thermostat is stuck closed. If the heater is not putting out enough hot air the thermostat is stuck open. Change the thermostat as a normal part of maintenance when changing coolant.
It is part of your engine thermostat - if the thermostat is mounted vertically (like it is on the 4.0 L OHV engine ) the thermostat must be installed with the air release valve at the top - Helpfull
Could be an air lock, could be a stuck thermostat, in the closed position. Changing the thermostat is an inexpensive next step.
The thermostat is located on the front left of the engine housed in the lower radiator hose that attaches to the engine. You remove the thermostat cover which exposes the thermostat gasket and thermostat. You must disconnect the negative battery cable. Remove the fresh air duct, remove the air cleaner, drain the engine coolant before removing the thermostat cover.
Probably beneath the air conditioner, that's where it was on my 96
Air inside the engine.
thermostat or air in clling system replace thermostat and bleed the system
The thermostat on a fiesta zetec engine is under the air box. The air box and splash guard will need to be removed for access.
A thermostat can prevent overheating on the engine, air-conditioning, by signaling such occurences through warning sounds.
start by changing the thermostat
The 1999 Saturn S-Series engine heats up the coolant, the thermostat valve opens and the coolant circulates between the radiator and the engine. Then the radiator fans turn on to cool it back down. The fans are also turned on when the air conditioner is turned on to aid in cooling the radiator and the air conditioner condensor.
