How do you get the battery out of a 2003 Volvo V40 I assume the plastic clip in the front is the key but what do you do?

The clip is the key. It should be on the side closest to the windshield. Simply grab the tip firmly between thumb and two fingers and lift straight up. You will probably think you are breaking it but it should just snap off...reverse the process to replace clip.
