The clip is the key. It should be on the side closest to the windshield. Simply grab the tip firmly between thumb and two fingers and lift straight up. You will probably think you are breaking it but it should just snap off...reverse the process to replace clip.

The battery for the Volvo S40 2004 is under the hood on the driver's side in the front just behind the lights . It is encased in a black Styrofoam case which lifts straight up to remove.
The battery is in the left front fender. Jack up the car....... remove left front tire..... unscrew the plastic whell well in front of the tire.... there is the battery, GM series 75 SIDE POST battery

You have to take the driver's side front tire off, take the plastic flap that covers the battery and the battery is right there. There will be a picture of a battery on the flap.

The Battery is mounted in the boot (trunk) of this vehicle. To access you need to go into the boot, lift the rear cover off (from the floor) You should see the battery sitting in the middle of the rear (with a black plastic cover) N.B. you can jump start this vehicle from the engine bay - where a positive feed (marked in red) is located by the front fuse board.
A plastic clamp at the bottom front of the battery has to be removed , A metric socket 13 or 14 mm with an extension is required.
Its right in front of the handlebars. There is a plastic compartment you can pop open to access the battery pretty easily.
It's under the hood, near the front, covered by a plastic cover.
