If you look by the shifter console there is a little cap or lid remove this and inside the hole is a little flange, either use a screwdriver or Allen wrench and push down on it. This will allow the key to turn. I acually leave the Allen wrench in the hole because sometimes it will act up. hope this helps

Probably a bad ignition switch.
Are you using an original key, or a replacement that has the proper security computer chip located in the fat plastic part of the key? If not, the car's security system will keep the ignition locked and will not allow you to turn the ignition switch. ALSO: some earlier models of Focus had ignition switches that were a problem. If you ARE using the correct key and can't turn the switch to start the car anymore, the ignition switch may have to be replaced.
insert key into ignition and turn to accessory and get a pin and depress it into the hole by the key and pull the switch out and then you can unscrew the big nut off the switch.
Unlock the drivers door with the key or insert the key into the ignition switch and turn the switch to the on position will turn off the alarm.
