take out all the screws on the door so you can take off the outer shell on the inside take your time not to damage the plastic rivits so you can reuse them or you'll have to buy some new ones then carefully remove the dust guard plastic that's glued on you should be able to reach everything from that point when putting the dust guard back on use glue or Duct Tape and pop the shell back on.
It could be the switch, power source to the switch, or the motor is burnt up. More than likely the motor is the problem since the driver side get a great deal more use than any other.
The intermittent power window module for your 1996 Chevy Lumina can be found inside of the driver door. You will need to remove the door panel in order to access the power window module.
You can but if the power window motor is bad it still won't roll up.
I can't say for sure about the 1996 model, but the 1994 Cutlass has a power window relay between the switch and the motor only on the front driver's side window. The relay powers the window all the way up or down (easing the driver's work load) if the switch is pushed in a certain way. The relay is located up under the dash and is very hard to reach on the 1994 model. Again, I can't say where it is located on the 1996 model.
To change the motor in the 1996 Chevy Cavalier driver's side window, first pry the interior door panel from the door. Then, remove the motor by first disconnecting the vehicle's battery and then disconnecting the wiring to the motor. You can then remove the screws that hold the motor in place.
Bad switch? Bad motor? see if you are getting power to it Open wire usually found in door jamb area
Remove the driver side panel remove loosen the three bolts holding the motor in place, lower the window by hand till you can see the two bolts that hold the window to the raising/lowering mechanism remove the bolts completely, then reach up from bottom and squeeze the bushings out the window sit on a ledge on the raising/lower bar which is entirely plastic... be careful not to force anything or the window will shatter the power window motor and cable should be replaced unless the trouble is just the motor but if the window moves even a little the trouble is likely in the cable system that is part of the motor assembly. No
I have a 1996 Monte Carlo and my driver power window had stopped working so I thought it was the window motor but I went to the junk yard and got several different master switches off of old Monte Carlos and found one that work and switch the old one with the new and it WORKED!!! =)
If you hear a sound when you hit the switch it's probably a bad power window motor. If you hear nothing, the problem is most likely electrical. Maybe a fuse, relay, bad switch or a wiring issue. My 94 Firebird had a bad power window motor. $54.00 for the motor from Autozone, and $260.00 Labor at the dealership to install it.
Bad switch or motor on other window Check to see if you are getting power to it - if so bad motor - if not maybe bad switch or open in wiring circuit
No, it will not fit.
