The red piece should just push to the side about 1/8 in and the you can squeeze the main tab and unplug.

When you find the switch you will notice that it is held onto the rod by retainer clip which can be quite difficult to remove without damaging the clip. Once you get the clip off you can undo the electrical connector and the switch should slide off. Then you can slide the new one on, connect the electrical connector, and re-install the retainer clip.
