How do you get the small C clip back on the shaft of the 4 wheel drive locking hub after you replace the CV boot on your 93 Nissan Pathfinder?

I just replaced both CV joint assemblies on my '94 w/ auto-locking hubs. The clip should go right back on. On one side I had to pull on the axle (by hand) outward to expose the groove for the clip. There is some play and yours might just be retracted a little. Also make sure wheel bearings, hub, etc. are seated properly and the lock mechanism is assembled properly. Hope this helps!
