Read the manual. It says to lower 3 or 4 turns, tighten til it clicks, lower, repeat... I had this problem also. I tightened it til it clicked, lower a few inches until it stops lowering, put the jack under it to take the weight off the cable, continue to lower the cable. Also, corrosion and rust will render this useless. A dealer$hip can help you.
