There are either one or two screws holding it in place. I can't remember now if you need to open the hatch or not.(It's been a yr since I took the taillight lens off) But,after you remove the screw(s) you just pull it straight off. You WILL feel resistance.

open the hatch there should be one screw in a plastic plate then take it off and two screws in the taillight itself take them out and then slide the outside (left side if on the driver side) away from the car then when it comes out slide the whole taillight the the left

It is mounted to the drivers side taillight lens inside the trunk. It simply unplugs from the lens.
The fuel filler is located behind the left rear taillight. Right above the large red taillight lens you will see a vertical piece of chrome. Grasp that vertical piece of chrome and turn it counterclockwise. The taillight lens assembly will them drop down to reveal the gas cap.

Open The Rear Hatch, pull off the taillight lens, locate the bulb, Push the bulb in and turn at the same time. It Should Come out.
The 2006 Jeep Liberty rear tail light lens does not come off. The tail light is seal. You can access the tail light lightbulb through the back of the tail light, in the cargo compartment.
Open the rear glass which will expose the screws holding the taillight lens housing to the sheetmetal pillar. Unscrew the exposed screws and pull the lens assembely away from the pillar. Remove the socket and pull the dead bulb out. Replace in reverse order.
Open rear hatch, there are two screws in taillight lens, take them out, the lens will lift out, turn the socket and it will relese, replace bulb, (I would recommend using some dielectric grease on bulb socket while you have it out), replace in reverse order. AJ
