The Fuel Pump is no simple task. I have replaced it on my 98 once. Lift the rear of the truck on jackstands, about 8 inches. Open the fuel door, and unscrew the (3) screw that secure the filler neck to the body of the truck. {Have as little fuel in the tank as possible unless you can squeeze a hydraulic jack. As I said I did this one on my own}. There are (2) metal fuel straps that secure the fuel tank. Unbolt them, and move the straps. CAREFULLY slide the fuel tank out from the "L" support brackets. {AT this point you dont have much clearance}.{North indicating towards the cab, South indicating towards the rear}. The Fuel pump/electrical connections are on the North end of the tank. Lower the South end on the ground, support the North end with (1) hand, and CAREFULLY disconnect the (3) fuel lines (2 send, 1 return), and the electrical connection. Mark them off so you can re-connect them correctly. Now you can lower the tank completly, and slide it out. Use a good set of pinch plylers, needle nose and remove the metal retaining ring {careful not to pinch yourself}. Pull the unit out and watch out for gas trapped inside of it. Reverse the steps to re-install it, lift, re-align on the "L" supports, bolt and your good to go. Erik You have to take the fuel tank out of the truck to service the fuel pump.

No other way.
