- Unfortunately, for your dad to stop drinking he has to admit he is an alcoholic and seek help from Alcoholics Anonymous and you could attend Al-anon which will help you deal with your father's Alcoholism. It is extremely difficult to get an alcoholic to admit they are one and unfortunately the family suffers because of it. You are a great son or daughter to want to help your father out and try to understand that under all that drinking your father still loves you, but some people are more prone (sometimes genetic and runs in families) and it is extremely difficult for them to stop drinking. It is possible, but it is up to your dad to want to quit.
