If your goal is to prevent spammers and email harvesters from detecting and using your email address to send unwanted mail to you, then using a mailto link is not recommended.
There are various ways to reduce the chances that your email address will be used to send spam and other unwanted mail to you.
Use HTML character codes:
Original mailto link
mailto:johnsmith@wikianswers.com
Mailto link using HTML character coding
mailto:johnsmith@wikianswers.com
: = colon
@ = @
. = .
You can also write the mailto link replacing all of your text with its HTML character code equivalent making it more difficult (but not impossible) for email harvesters to read.
For example, the HTML character code equivalent for the word mailto would be,
MAILTO
Disposable e-mail addresses:
There are many services on the internet that provide disposable or temporary e-mail addresses which allows you to use multiple email addresses that forwards to your real email address and that can be deleted or left to expire if you are getting unwanted mail through a disposable email address.
Address munging:
Another way is to simply alter the presentation of an email address that is displayed in plain text such as the following examples.
johnsmith at wikianswers dot com
johnsmith-at-wikianswers-dot-com
johnsmith@wikianswers.com.nospam
Using images to display your email address is not recommended because it presents accessibility issues for users with screen readers and text only Web Browsers.
For website developers, there are many scripts available on the Internet that use JavaScript for email cloaking that provides an effective method for preventing spam.
To hide you email address, do not share it publicly. The other way of hiding an email address is setting your privacy to you alone.
To effectively stop spam emails, stop posting your email on public forums and don't post your email on websites. Stay away from certain sites and stay away from certain software programs. Use your spam blocking tools. Report Spam. Use disposable email address when you are in doubt about whether to share your email address with a site.
To post a comment on the Word of Warcraft forums, one must first register for a forum account. During registration, one must submit and confirm a working email address, and read the forum rules or guidelines for posting.

Only very obliquely; HTML has the facility to request an email to be sent (using the mailto directive), but the email application will be written in in another language (probably C, C++ or Java).
Theo James has not publicly released his personal email address, and he does not have a fan-mail address. He does, however, have a fan Facebook page, so sending a message to the group or posting on the group's wall might be a good way to show your support.

You can email WikiAnswers contributors just like you email other people. You cannot email them if they did not show their email address. If a person wants to be contacted via email they may leave their email address on their profile (which you can get to by clicking on their username). If they don't leave their email address, we must respect their privacy. You may try contacting a contributor through their personal message board, which is accessible from their profile. Note that these boards are public. You may consider posting your email address in a message to them on their board. Again, note that these boards are public and other people (such as spammers) will see your address.
When you first signed up for AdventureQuest Worlds, a verification email was sent to the address you listed. If you missed that email, you can still verify you email address. Go to "Manage Account" on the main AQWorlds page and log in. Look for the link to verify your email address. After submitting it, go to your inbox in your email and find a link that will verify your account. Remember to check your spam box because sometimes AQW emails are put there. If there are any problems, contact the staff of AQWorlds through the Battleon Forums or their help service.
