No!
Unless this a positive ground system (highly unlikely) then the '-' always goes to ground (e.i. engine block, frame, a metal thing in general) and the positive goes to the starter or starter solenoid.
The starter for a 1994 Chevy Cavalier is on the side of the engine at the rear. Always disconnect the battery before attempting to remove the starter.
Hey George===First remove the negative battery cable. Rme ve the flywheel cover. Then remove the bolts holding the starter to the block. Drop the starter down enough to remove the wires. then remove the starter. GoodluckJoe

First take the positive battery cable off, then remove the wires that hook to the starter and remember were thay go. Then remove the 2 bolts that hold the starter to the block. Then install new starter and hook every thing back up. No big deal.

The starter is located at the front right of the engine. It is located between the engine and battery. You can trace the thin cable that runs from the battery to the back of the starter to locate it.
Remove the positive battery cable from your 1994 Firebird battery. Remove the cables from the front of your starter. Remove the starter retaining bolts. Reverse the process to install your new starter.
remove the neg battery cable then the wires on the starter. Then take out the mounting bolts and work the starter out.

either clean and tighten cable connections or get battery tested. if not the battery, it is the solenoid or the starter If it is clicking and not starting at first, but starts after a few tries, its your starter taking a dump. Replace it.
