Buy a kit at Wal-Mart or U-Haul comes with instructions. The U-Haul kit requires you to splice into the tail light wires. These types of kits work but if a wire frays and grounds out will melt the control module that comes with the kit. Allegedly the T-Connector kit can be used on the Escape but someone else will have to answer how that works or if its feasible.
are you sure that your escape is not a 2003 model?
Not all trucks are built with a trailer harness plug. If you can not find one, then your truck does not have one and you need to install one.
2006 Dodge Dakota - Where do i find the trailer wiring harness
you do not need the extra 7 pin if your not running electri brakes
Have you looked under the vehicle? I'd be surprised if the wiring harness wasn't already there and taped up under the vehicle. Barring that, most business that sell and install trailer hitches will also install trailer wiring harnesses. If you're a DIY, go to the local auto parts store and ask. They probably have the wiring harness you need all setup to plug into the manufacturer's wiring harness.
U-Haul sells a kit with instructions
You can find a trailer wiring harness for a Chevrolet in a Haynes repair manual. The manuals are available at most auto parts stores.
Your local auto parts store can sell you a trailer wire harness for that vehicle that simply plugs in to the original harness and it is weather tight. It installs in minutes.
Check with your local auto parts store, they can sell you a trailer harness that simply plugs into your existing harness, very easy to do, just follow instructions. The harness should be in the $25 range.

Trailer wiring harness part #118382 - any local Auto Parts Store should care this.
Your best bet would be to call or go to your local auto parts store and tell them you need a "plug in" trailer wiring harness for your vehicle....these are very nice items and easy to install, as you just "plug" them into your exsisting vehicle's wiring harness. No need to "search out" for which wire goes where and no splicing of the wires either. They are more expensive than a "standard" wiring plug, but the "extra" cost is more than worth the "time" and headaches you will save!
