The first step is to turn off the engine. When installing, lift the cap to reveal the direction the metal tab is pointing on the rotor. Then remove the rotor for new installation.

Plugs, cap and rotor, air filter, fuel filter, PCV valve. Plug wires if yours are bad.

The cap and rotor are considered wear items and should be replaced. No repair options are practical.

Bad distributor cap, and possible coil and coil wire. I would replace cap and rotor with new one from the Chevy dealer ONLY. FIRST Already did that. Any other options?
try changing the cap and rotor
be it a 4,6,or8 cylinder....be sure you have the crank on TDC, top dead center, install the distributor so that the rotor is pointing to #1 cylinder on the cap
There is no distributor cap, only a ciol pack that the plug wires go to
