do you need a power stretcher to install a carpet or can you ues a knee kicker
It is generally not a recommended procedure. The abrasion of carpet on carpet will cause both layers to wear prematurely. Certain types of glue down carpet can be installed over existing glue down carpet. Check the manufactures installation instructions. I do agree that installing stretch in carpet over existing stretch in carpet is not a good idea.
It all depends on if your handy or not. You have to make sure that you cut the carpet the correct way, so it doesn't fray. You will have to also know how to stretch the carpet out properly.
Carpet install on CONCRETECarpet in a basement assumes that it is a concrete sub floor..Either glue it down.. Very easy!!!!! go to the Depot & buy a trowel & some carpet adhesiveOrTackstrip & pad then stretch the carpet just like anywhere else.. Seams are tricky & setting the tack strip on the concrete is about as much fun as a root canal.. Think about letting a pro install carpet on a concrete floor...Look on youtube there are some good free how to install videos out there
yes you can it makes no difference {edit:} IF you are gluing the carpet to the laminate. But if you plan to install tack strip and stretch the carpet, you risk the tension of the carpet pulling up laminate boards at the edges.

Carpet kickers, or knee kickers, are used to install a fitted carpet. They help to install the carpet more tightly and flat than would be possible otherwise.
We have installed carpet on cermic a few times. Please be aware your grout lines will most likely show through into the carpet. The best option is to stretch the new carpet in over cushion. In order to do this the tackstip will need to be glued to the existing ceramic. Keep in mind you will want to glue this tackstrip and let it dry for at least 24 hours prior to stretching in the carpet.
depending on the"TYPE" of installation...glue down or stretch and a very qualified installer, any where from 10.00 to 20.00 a square yard...
In order to stretch a carpet a person must first detach the carpet and then let it soak for quite some time in hot water then simply stretch it out by nailing it to the wood.
