Right, Right, Right, where do i start? Well every horse can jump whether is a Shetland, or a 18hh horse. You have to gradually train it but you cant have a beginner or a person who doesn't know what her/him is doing. Really you need to have special help if it is your first horse or whatever. If you know your self then go ahead, But why would you put this question on here if you already knew your self? Right so.... You want to know how you jump a horse? Well all you do is start from the basics which is lunging, walking, handling and caring for your horse/pony. Once you have built up a bond with your horse/pony that's when it comes to jumping.

First of all start jumping the horse without a person on its back. Then gradually build up to the point where (the human being, person knows how to jump and so does the horse) i would advise you to try it on another horse which is used to learners and will jump with some one their back at the smallest of heights. If you haven't got a clue about horses and you have gone and got a youngster, which you are breaking in and teaching the basics

Once you are now working on the horses back, then just walk, trot and do the basic stuff. If its the first time for the horse to jump then walk the horse of the jump at the height of a pole. If its you learning to jump, then have someone in the field to supervise you and help you.

if you want to know how to actually jump on the horses back then here we go:

when you jump (on the horses back) then you might have seen the showjumping position. all you do is look through its ears and go with the horse. Push your self forward, but not to forward other wise you wont be on the horse after its finished the jump. If you don't know this, then go to have lessons, find a trainer or some one who can help.

Jumping a horse is a very complicated and complex manuvure. I will assume for lack of space that you already know and have completed the necessary ground work and training that is a must before going over a single fence.

Point your horse at the fence as straight on as you can get. Worry about cutting corners later on. Keep your head up at all times, your heels down at all times, and your legs on your horse at all times. Stay relaxed and remain in your 2-point position as you approach your fence. As your horse lifts off the ground on the front run your hands forward into your crest release. Keep your hands soft and quiet at this point. High, tense hands can make your horse's back hollow out. Follow through with the crest release while you put your weight in your heels and lift your weight off the saddle and off your horse's back. As the horse's front end comes down off the jump, followed by the back end of the horse's body, settle back down into the saddle and collect your horse's head back up into your hands. Settling back into position is important because you have to get ready for your next fence. They come up faster than you think so be ready. As you are landing off one fence, you should be looking ahead for your next fence with your eyes. Remember, where your eyes are now your horse will be there in about 2 seconds. Something to think about to help keep your eyes and head up.

This is a brief version of the jumping procedure. If it looks easy, its because the rider your watching has done his homework and put the hours of practice in the saddle. Good Luck.

wwell u urge the horse forword kicking with your legs.keepp your hands the same don't have a very tight grip.keep your back straight and keep your heels down, make shure your toes don't move and when you are a few feet away from the fence urge the horse on if its being a little slow . as you are going over the fence, stand up and move your chest to the neck of the horse.move yourhands up on the horses neck higher up so the horse can stretch out its neck and make a very pretty jump. when you are landing slowly move your hands back and your back straight again than that's how you jump.

Horses have an anatomy that allows it to push its body up and over obstacles. However, horses have to be trained to jump properly, hence they do not hurt themselves and/or others. People all around the world enjoy jumping horses and in some places, it is part of their culture. If you are planning to start a hobby or career in jumping horses, look into training, for you cannot just hop on a horse and jump over a five foot obstacle, no, you have to go through training, for you and your horse. You have to go in two point position.

Well to train a jumper you'll need a lot of time and certain training tools. To begin with the horse should be at least 3 years old, any younger than this and you risk injuring the horses joints. You'll need to teach the young horse a good deal of dressage type flatwork first including half-halt, shoulders-in, leg yield, etc. Once the horse has those basic skills you can progress to ground poles and cavalletti to teach the horse distance and pacing. Once that training becomes solid you can move up to cross rails and slowly begin raising the height and difficulty of the courses to be ridden. Before too long you'll have a nice healthy jumper.

You don't "get" a horse to jump high. Training and correct skill is needed. It takes about 4-6 months to properly train a horse to jump higher than 4 feet. Keep in mind your horses maximum, for your safety and your horses safety.

Remember, punishing your horse over jumps DOES NOT help. In fact, the horse will probably NEVER jump willingly after that. Horses were not born to jump, and each must be taught, slowly and correctly.

What do you do if your horse refuses a jump in the show arena?

if your horse refuses the jump, you turn the horse around in a circle, then go a little ways away from the jump, (but not too far giving the horse time to think about how to get away with going over the jump) and then (if the jump is not too large) trot your horse over the jump giving it leg pressure up to the jump to coax it to jump. (its easier to trot over the jump than canter when your horse doesn't want to jump it) if your horse refuses a jump during a show, this will count down points but if your horse refuses a few times you are disqualified. hope that helps!

How do you ride a horse towards a jump?

To ride a horse towards a jump you'll need a horse that has seen or be over jumps before, otherwise the horse could spook and try to bolt away from the jump. Once warmed up and riding in a good frame aim the horse at the jump dead center and move into a forward trot or canter. Once the horse gets about 6 feet from the jump give a tiny squeeze with your calves to let him know to go over it. The horse should jump the obstacle without much of a problem. If it is the horses first time jumping you may want to grab some mane as they tend to jump very big over their first jump.

How much should you jump your horse during training?

How much a horse should jump depends on many things including age, health, and level of competition. No horse should jump for more than two days in a row. Many professional competitors only jump a horse about 2 to 3 times a week over jumps that are lower than what the horse would jump in shows, though they may add taller jumps in to keep the horse jumping at a certain height. Never jump a horse younger than 3 years old or one with certain joint problems. You should consult with your equine Vet about how often your horse should jump.

Can all types of horse jump?
