You have to look at the reason he was started on the Straterra, e.g., inability to concentrate at school, or excessive daydreaming, not getting his school work done, etc., and then find out through the school and through your own observation if these symptoms are improving. It takes several weeks for the medication to become effective. He is old enough to give you feedback on how he is doing with his work etc.
Keep in contact with his school, doctor and anyone else to get feedback. Good luck!
If it is yourself on the medicine, you will know in a few weeks. I noticed a little change after a few days. Now after a few months, I sleep better, wake up easily, read faster, listen better, I can make eye contact. I have the urge to keep my room neat, take care of small tasks and get things done. I am still a bit absent-minded, and procrastinate, but I can get things done. Mornings improved 10-fold.
My roommates noticed changes as well. So if you are a parent just look to see if his/her work is getting done and it may still they are in a better mood doing it. YOu may still need to urge him/her to do stuff, as you would with any child, but I would think it is a lot easier. My mom would have totally noticed after a few weeks, especially waking up and keeping my room clean.
Also Strattera works in 65% of cases (as I read on this website).
I am 35yrs old and I also have ADD not ADHD. Now I take strattera, wellibutrin, and concerta but I used to only take strattera. When I only took strattera I could concentrate and remember things easier. I had to add the other medicines because it was as if my brain couldn't wake up every day. As the day wore on it would become worse even when I took strattera alone. Your son should be able to retain information better than before if the strattera is working. You should see an improvement in remembering instructions and in his grades at school. No medicine, in my opinion, is a cure all for ADD. I still have to pay very close attention when someone tells me something or shows me something so I can remember it. Repetition is also important. It also makes remembering easier. It is going to be harder for you because it is your child that has ADD (even though it has been shown that a parent may realize they have it in learning their child's symptoms). Question your child about his schoolwork and ask him to repeat to you things you tell him to do to see if he is remembering it. Seeif you can encourage his teachers to become involved. ADD and ADHD people are very intelligent and tend to be leaders. We have learning problems due to our brains moving too fast to retain information we learn. Good Luck and hang in there. Your son is lucky to have someone so willing to help him. If I can help in any way e mail me at vickyah@wmconnect.com
30 mg in amphetamine is 40 mg in straterra mg.
nope!
Straterra can stunt a persons grown by one or two inches. The medication is used to lessen the symptoms of attention deficit disorder.
YES, MY CHILD IS ON STRATERRA AND MEDICAID PAYS FOR IT AS LONG AS THE DOCTOR GIVES AN APPROVAL FOR IT. My daughter is on the CHIP plan, and I pay $5.00 for name brand meds. She recently started taking Straterra. I did see on the pharmacy slip that the insurance pays over $80.00 for each prescription.
Not that I know of. I prefer it. It lets me know it's working.
Yes, Straterra can be effective for adults. Not all patients react the same to this or any medication however, so results will vary among patients. Appropriate management by a physician who knows your personal medical history will be important for optimal results.
If your scars heal and if you can move your muscles, you know your cells are working.
Yes, my daughter has been on Strattera, Wellbutrin and Depakote for about a year and a half.
If it has light, the flashlight is working.
how do i know
According to counsellingresource.com, it is an uncommon side effect but has been observed.
I don't have an answer.Just wanted to let you know that my son has been on straterra for about 6weeks now and in the last 3 days has developed severe diarrhea with abdominal pain and cramps. My 8 year old son has been on Straterra for about 4 months. He had no side effects initially, but over the last two months he's had stomach pains, become pasty white and weak (gets better when he eats), and most recently has had diarrhea for 6 out of the last 10days. Tomorrow we see the Dr. If I learn anything I'll post it, but was glad to read the other posts so I could show them to her to show her I'm not the only mom wondering the same thing? Today is my 2nd day of Straterra and only the intro dose of 25 mg each. I am 33 female. Today, I became very nauseated and in the evening, had bad diarrhea and some vomiting. my son is 9 and he has been on straterra now for about 9 months he also complains of severe abdominal pain. I believe that this is an unfortunate side effect for most that are taking this medication.I think it is wise for those who are on this med to schedule a liver panel with the new findings on this medication.
