the only way to know is to remove the head and inspect both the head and the gasket. one quick way to get an idea is to contact a reputable parts house or dealer and ask them about your problem , on some vehicles its very common for the gasket only to blow, some commonly have heads that crack . either way that is only a guideline for common problems and not a guarantee . the only way is to pull the head , sometimes the head has a hairline crack , so I always get a head checked for warpage and have it magnafluxed . because some of the cracks are not visible to the naked eye , magnaflux shows em all . well worth the little extra cost to have it done

Problem with Lower intake maniflod leaking oil on 2002 Bonneville?

The lower intake manifold gaskets on 3800 engines are likely to go bad at around 80,000 miles. This is caused from the gaskets being made with rubber and being eaten away by the "So-Called Dexcool" coolant. It is best to replace this gasket as well as the upper plenum gasket with a metal gaskets and change from dexcool coolant to regular antifreeze. This is an expensive repair...so be prepared.

Will k-seal seal gasket on the manifold of my 2002 monte carlo?

I myself have had very good luck with k-seal in the past. That being said, there is no such thing as a "mechanic in a can". It might fix the problem for a while, but the best thing to do is replace the gaskets as the new intake set has updated gaskets.

1995 S-10 2.2 replaced cracked head new gaskets thermostat hoses everything torqued properly what can be causing water to leak from back of motor?

Intake manifold may have moved when being tightened down causing intake gasket to move and not seal. There are water passages in it . I pulled the head and the gasket had moved, replaced the gasket and this time used permaseal this fixed the leak.

Do you have to replace the intake mainfold gasket when you replace the spark plugs on a 96 2.5l v6?

If money is an issue, you can probably get by without replacing the gaskets (provided they don't tear when you remove the intake). But for cheap insurance, I'd replace the gasket regardless. Make sure the mating surfaces are very clean, and don't nick the aluminum when you're cleaning it. Being careful with a razor blade scraper tool, a rag and some carb cleaner should have the surface looking like new. With the new gaskets, I'd recommend a spray-on gasket sealer on both sides of the gasket. Permatex sells a nice copper spray which should help seal it up. I've learned that a gasket alone is not enough to make an effective seal. When you install the intake, make sure you torque the bolts to OEM specifications.

Can warped head gasket be repair without being replaced?

No, the only permanent repair for a blown head gasket is to replace the gasket. Anything else is just an emergency repair.

Head Gasket repair on 98 subaru cheap or?

I payed my mechanic $1200, it was mostly labor. I think the gaskets cost $400. Due to the engine being a boxer, it has to be lifted completely to get to the gaskets. This is a labor intensive operation whether you do it yourself or pay someone..

What will it cost to fix a blown head gasket in the Chevy blazer?

I am currently replacing head gaskets in a 1984 2.8L and the gasket kit from NAPA cost me around $90 I am doing the work myself, so you can estimate 6 to 8 hrs from a repair shop maybe up to 10 hrs. They're hourly rate is dependant on where you live here in Western KY it's $50 to $60 per man hour + parts. If it is not a head gasket but the head being cracked a machine shop will charge $120 to $150 to machine each head (if it is salvagable). There is no way to tell which is bad until it is removed and inspected. Best bet is to call a repair shop and verify how long "the book" says it takes to replace gasket(s).
