Try a known working relay in its place... I have also put my hand on the relay while someone is driving and pressed the over drive button on and off, you should feel the relay "click" inside.
Could be a bad overdrive solenoid switch or relay. No, I don't know where they are on this car.
Do you have your terminology right....The injector relay would be the computer right??? The fuel pump relay could cause that problem!!!! good luck and let me know
i dont know i came here for the answer
Well the overdrive relay is SITUATED behind the left driver's side foot panel (in a right side driver's seat like we have in Australia), and it's BOLTED ON TO A BRACKET! So you can't just reach in and access it from under the dash. But if you want to know how to TAKE OFF the panel, don't ask me! I actually want to get to the relay to default the overdrive to OFF so that when you drive in the suburbs, as most people do most of the time, the overdrive doesn't cut in and out all the time around 60 Kph. I've had a car where that was done, and it's such a relief! You only hit the overdrive button on the freeway, where you want it. Cheers.
I may be way off, but in my '85 240, the relay is beneath the dash on the passenger side. I don't know if it was moved after 85. Good luck. Yes that's right, its under the dash , its easiest to take out the glove box to get at it. You don't have to take the glove box out to remove the fuel pump relay. If you're thinking of the overdrive relay you would be correct. To remove the fuel pump relay, you have to remove the cloth cover under the passenger side of the dashboard. The relay is rectangular, and attached to the firewall by a metal clip. It's white in color and the part number is 3523608.
Volvo Lastvagnar is. Volvo cars is not. Volvo entrepreneur vehicles and Volvo Penta (marine engines) I don't know.
relay is inside the gas tank by the fuel pump the fuel pump relay is found in the fuse box behind the front ash tray it is white are blue most are white cost in the UK £18 in the USA do not know. one of two fuel pumps one in the tank the other is under the car in a small cage one is a fuel filter and the other is a pump. goggle Volvo relays to see it.
the relay needs to be replaced. you will find it behind the hazard switch (attached to the switch - a long skinny thing) I looked forever till someone told me where it was. Even the Volvo parts guy didn't know and Lawrence Volvo of Walnut Creek, CA would not tell me...
It is important to know what is causing problems in a car. When the horn relay clicks, but the horn does not sound, it is not a fuse but more likely to be the cars clock spring.
Normally the overdrive is allowed , so the overdrive OFF light does not light up When the overdrive is switched off , the overdrive OFF light will light up to let you know that the overdrive has been switched off
I called a shop called DaisyWagon on Ravenna in Seattle. Here's what they said. If your overdrive is working after a period of time it's a heat issue; i.e. the overdrive isn't working until something heats up. If the relay was broken, the overdrive would never work. The same thing goes for the solenoid (another "solution" on these sites)- it to is an on and off mechanism that most likely wouldn't be effected by heat. The folks at Daisy wagon most confidently said that what they do is enlarge a passageway near the diaphragm near the solenoid. After years the passageway gets to narrow and fluid won't flow through there until it is thin enough to do so at the right pressure (the speed you need for overdrive) This is why, when the fluid finally expands enough after warming up, it will activate the working solenoid and relay. If anyone has more to add to this I'd be glad to hear it- but after searching for a long time, this seemed to be a reason I could put some weight on. I'm getting the operation done on Thursday. I'll let you know how it goes.
Older models, no. Current models, unlikely. But it would be good to know what year and model, eh? Overall, the FPR controls the fuel pump only.
