remove coil wire from dist. have assistant crank engine over hold coil wire with insulated pliers about .05 inch from engine look for spark while assistant cranks engine. if you have spark . remove a spark plug wire do same spark test if you still have spark rotor is good, if not rotor is bad or another problem inside dist. also you look for corroded or burned spots on rotor or dist. cap
It doesn't make sense that the new cap and rotor would have gone bad unless the parts were defective or installed improperly. Time for a better mechanic.
The roll pin in the distributor drive gear may be broken. Remove distributor and check. Camshaft broken, But not very common in stock engines. Timing chain broken. Not common either. Cam gear on the timing gear may be striped off/teeth gone. Check timing chain.
The rotor will only fit in one way. Install it how it fits in and you should be good to go.
my a/c sticker is gone under the hood.how much Freon goes in my system.1988 regular cab,v8?
There is a ignition module inside of the distributor just under the rotor button, It has probley gone bad. REPLACE MODULE. It does control the fuel and spark.
.045 is the preferred gap.
I had the same problem. Check all of your spark plugs, if they smell like gas they are burned out. You should replace your spark plugs and check your distibutor, not the distributor cap. If that turns out to be the problem replace the distributor, distributor cap, and the rotor. If you turn the key to start the car, but nothing happpens, the starter's bad. If the car turns over but doesn't fire up, then the igniter/coil in the distributor might have gone bad.
Number are gone
Car shakes when I put the brake check

dear .about a year ago I did a tune up new plug wire and plugs but now am having touble. have replaced coil distributor cap and rotor. my trouble is my 1997 chev astro van will not start when it rains or heavy dew. it runs fine when dry or during a rain storm. It will turn over, there is gas, there is spark from coil but none from distributor to plugs but if i add a wire and plug to ground there is spark or if I turn the distributor (made hole bigger) there is spark, just no ignition and when you shut the key off, it acts like it wants to start. I have had it put on a computer diagnostic, but nothing was found. new distributor cap, and rotor. If you let it sit until the dew is gone, it starts with no problem. Any thoughts on the problem? heavy dew...
Could be a universal joint gone bad.
