Look under the front end of the vehicle. Look at the front suspension components. Locate the tie rods and center link. There should be a slve cylinder (hydraulic cylinder) attached; one end to the center link and the other end to the frame. Example car that used the slave cylinder system: Corvette 1963 thru 1982.
It depends on which engine your car has as to how to change the power steering pump. Let me know if it is the 2.5 4 cylinder or the 2.8 V6 and I will get back to you.
After you have located the clutch slave cylinder, have someone depress the clutch pedal. You should see the piston of the slave cylinder extend somewhat. If it does not, either the slave cylinder is bad, or the master cylinder, or, there is not enough brake fluid in the system for it to operate properly. Check the level in the master cylinder. If the slave cylinder is leaking profusely, it is probably bad.
I dont know try POWER STEERING FLUID
As far as I know, there is no filter for the power steering unit.
It is important to know where the fluid goes in a car. The power steering fluid goes in the power steering reservoir. It is under the hood of the car under the cap labeled power steering.
power seetiringpump
This is two of the things I know that could be wrong. The power steering pump is either bad or there is no power steering fluid in the pump causing it to have steering problems. Be sure to check the fluid level in the power steering pump.
Steering becomes much harder.
clamp the line to the slave cylinder and mash the clutch pedal. if the pedal gets hard to push, the slave is bad. if the clutch pedal goes down slowly with moderate pressure, the master cyl is bad clamp the line going to the slave cylinder. meant to say that in the previous answer
extremely hard to turn the steering wheel
Other than it being a transmission & gearbox out job, I don't know, but that's what is needed as the slave cylinder is apparently INSIDE the bell-housing.
I'm not a mechanic / technician , but as far as I know the manual transmission has to be removed in order to replace the hydraulic clutch slave cylinder
