You need to pull the codes and see what they say. you'll need a troubleshooting flowchart to do the testing. There are times that the flowcharts will say to replace the ECU, but that is not always the right solution.
Pulling the codes will not always be a solution, however. If the ECU is faulty, or if the ECU has a faulty power supply (e.g. ignition relay to ECU is bad), you may not be able to communicate with the ECU at all.
Each vehicle's repair manual should have a flow chart of ECU diagnostics, outlining what connections/terminals to test for voltage and resistance. Essentially, if you have positively verified that all other electrical components are working properly, and you still have signal problems, then you can assume the ECU is bad.
If its a fuel injected engine it will cause you many problems
It is important to know the symptoms of a bad car part. The symptoms of a bad ECU are the check engine light stays on, the car won't start, transmission problems, and bad emissions results.
Need to know what engine you have.
on an earlier model it meant problems with ECU
GST ECU is designed for turbo. you will have problems with ECU, but nothing that can't be resolved. It's a pain, but it can be done with minor motor mount mods.
Assuming you mean the engine ECU, the answer is no
ecu= engine control unit
The ECM or ECU is located inside the vehicle that the engine is installed in. These units are never mounted on the engine.
When a check engine light appears on a 1992 Honda Prelude dashboard it means the ECU is get an abnormal reading on one of the automobiles functions. Use a diagnostic tool to flash the ECU and find the problems associated the car. The flash will also turn off the check engine light.
The airbag ECU on a Vauxhall Vectra is located in the engine bay. It is on the side of the engine on the passenger side.
The Ford Festiva ECU valve can be found on the firewall in the engine compartment. The valve will be on the drivers side of the engine compartment.
electronic control unit (ecu) that would be the computer for your engine
