You know it by touching and feeling the pipes on the hot water side; if they are hot, there is water running through the pipes and obviously the heater valve is open on hot side.

If you open hot water valve on the hot water heater what would happen?

The hot water valve should always be open, so the hot water can exit the heater into the system. If your actually meaning opening the drain valve on the bottom of theater, the water in the heater will drain, starting with the hot water stored there, and then the cold water that is entering the tank to replace it will simplt flow out the bottom before being heated. Dpending on where the heater is located will denepnd on how much of a mess the ensuing flood will be.

How do you drain water from the hot water tank faucet?

If electric shut off the current to the elements, if gas shut off the gas valve. Open a hot water faucet to give it air, open the drain valve on the bottom of the heater.

No pressure in the hot water in all house?

Check your water heater to ensure that the valve in the supply line is open. You can test that the water heater is working by using the relief valve at the top, just beware of the potential for scalding hot water to come out if the heater is operating correctly. If you have a full tank, and all the valves are open around the water heater, it may be time to call a plumber.

Will the water drain out of an electric water heater if no water is going in?

yes, but you have to open the relief valve or one of the water connections to allow air to enter the water heater otherwise it will become air-locked and not drain very well.

One hot water heater is not filling up?

Open the supply valve and also stop it from being air bound

How to Keep Your Water Heater Clean?

By Andreina Urdaneta A clean water heater will heat and maintain water better and last longer. Once a year, flush your water heater, and in extreme hard water areas, at least twice a year. If you feel up to the challenge, here are some tips to help you in a basic cleaning. 1 Turn the water heater and the cold water supply to the water heater off. 2 Hook a high-quality garden hose to the drain valve, and place the other end in an area where hot water will not cause damage. 5. Open the drain valve. 6. Disconnect the cold water pipe on the top of the water heater. This step will let air into the water heater so it will drain. When the water heater is empty, close the drain. 8. Pour tile cleaner into the cold water, leave for a couple of hours and drain the detergent out of the tank. 10. Reconnect the cold water supply to the water heater. Open the cold water valve and let the water heater flush for a couple minutes. 12. Close the drain valve and open the hot water faucet nearest to the tank, and let the water heater fill. 13. When water starts to come out of that faucet, reopen the drain and let the water heater continue to rinse. After all the air is out of the water heater, turn it back on. Take care of your water heater, and it will take care of you. If you keep ignoring the task, your water heater may just leave you in the cold.

You have hot water going into the heater core hose on your 2000 dodge neon but no hot water coming out the outlet hose is there a valve in the core that should open?

There is no valve, it is probably clogged up.

Even when house water turned off why will water still drain from the hot water tank?

Reason for question: Plumber left valve open and flooded house The hot water (heater) tank is fed from a 'header tank'; normally in the loft space but can be combined with the main heater tank (fortic). The header is filled from the water main. Unless the header is drained or its outlet is closed off, it will drain down through the open valve of the hot water (heater) tank.

Should you open the pressure relief valve when you flush the water heater?

Yes, you should, it helps air get in to flush more quickly.

After close main water valve in front yard.. If I do air pressure test from a cold water tab.. could it detect any water leak on hot water pipe.?

yes, as long as the cold water inlet valve to your water heater is open.

How do you drain your hot water heater?

Shut off fuel supply. Allow to cool. Close the inlet and out let valves. Open the drain valve bottom of heater. Open the T&P to break Vacuum. Have a hose attached to dump water in a safe area. If you are draining heater to flush don't shut off fuel supply. On a power vent heater (pvc venting) you can turn the switch off. On a conventional heater with metal flue pipe turn to the vacation setting (lowest temp setting). when your heater is refilled you can switch on or turn temp setting to original position without bleeding gas and relighting. Waiting for a sitting heater to cool will take hours. You can run hot water in house with heater off until cold. You should not have an outlet valve on a hot water heater if you do remove it. Open hot water in building to vent. Opening and old T&P will weaken the spring even more so if hot water runs through it and may cause it to fail (drip) later with water on. Some drain valves drip later with water on have a 3/4 garden hose cap with washer for valve if it leaks as opposed to replacing drain valve.
