We need to know what engine it has to answer that question.
I don't know if the 2003 have 2 coil packs. But I do know my old 1998 ford expedition XLT (4.6L) Had two coil packs in front on the engine. One on each side of the block.
coil packs are just bolted to engine ,undo bolts then disconnect and # plug wires so you know where they came from.
Need to know if it is, or not,the coupe. Also, what engine.
Different places on different vehicles. Need to know make, model, year and engine size.
If theres a miss fire on a cylinder you check engine light will tell you.. Switch the coil from that cylinder to another and siwtch that coil to the cylinder that the computer says is missifing. If the cylinder you put your suspected coil on miss fires then you know its a bum coil.
Connect a known good spark plug to a spark plug wire and ground the threads to the engine while cranking. If there's spark to the electrode you know the coil is good and it's sending current through the wire.
What engine do you have in your vehicle? If it is a 1.8T, your coil packs are on the very top of the motor. There are 4, one for each cylinder. Once you pull the plastic engine cover off (if you still have it) you cant miss the coil packs.
