I open the chimney, open the air intake. I use dry newspaper: 4 sheets crumpled into balls. I put small sticks of wood on top, and smallish sticks on top of that. Then I put smallish pieces of dry coal or smokeless fuel on top. I light the paper with a match. ...................... The furnace is supposed to light itself.
