Slowly back off on your sugar intake, because it won't be easy to cut it all off immediately. You would only be bound for failure by doing that. For example, let's say you normally put in two tablespoons of sugar when drinking coffee. Cut it down to one tablespoon and gradually to none. As for sugary desserts, cut your servings in half that way you don't lose the needed energy to keep you going daily. Sleep is really important here. The reason you need sugar is because you need energy. If you get enough hours of sleep, you would have the needed energy that you have been lacking all these years without consuming the harmful sugar. But in truth, sugar only becomes harmful when you overdose on it. That's when your body is getting way too much sugar than it needs. So it converts it into fat. Depending on the person, some people develop fat in their thighs and buttocks. Whereas with yourself, the excess fat is being developed in your stomach area. As for exercises, concentrate on exercises for your abs. Make sure you are breathing correctly while exercising. Drink the recommended 8 glasses of fluid a day. If you can't live off water alone, do 4 glasses of water and 4 glasses of your favorite sports drink daily. Don't take it that water is healthy for you. Know that your body can only consume so much water. If you over do it, you can kill yourself--similar to drowning yourself. 8-10 glasses is good enough, if you're just doing water alone. Obviously, you can just do abs alone. Because it'll eventually get boring. So you should mix your abs routine in with some other exercises as well. Whether it be running, cardio on the treadmill, etc. This will help relieve boredom. Another idea is to watch an exercise video to get yourself excited about working out. Having a friend to workout with you can help out a lot. You would feel more obligated to work out and the two of you work together to accomplish your goals.

Avoid foods that contain trans fats.

Don't drink too much alcohol.

Eat a high protein diet.

Reduce your stress levels.

Don't eat a lot of sugary foods

Do aerobic exercise (cardio)

Cut back on carbs — especially refined carbs
