On a 1996 Ford Explorer :
Open the rear liftgate and just above the rear bumper , in the center , is an
access hole for the hooked end of the crank rod .
Open the rear passenger door and flip the seatback to the flat position , you
will see the ( 2 ) rod sections that are used for the vehicle jack held in place by
clips underneath a carpeted panel that lifts up
Insert the hooked end into the hole above the rear bumper using the lug
wrench as the crank handle ( the lug wrench is held in place by clips , behind
the access panel , on the drivers side of the cargo area near the liftgate )
Turn COUNTERCLOCKWISE always leaving the weight of the spare tire on the
cable so the cable doesn't get twisted
