Push the volume knob to turn on and off. Everything else is pretty standard.
All of the fuses in the miata are located in the engine compartment. Looking at the car from the front, there is a black case near the left hood hinge. Open it, and the radio fuse is in there.

Hold the 'clock' button until it starts to blink, adjust the time and poke the 'clock' button to accept the time.

I have a '93 Miata Limited Edition which I'm pretty certain either didn't come with the "override code" radio feature, or it's been disabled. I've removed battery power plenty of times in the last 15 years and the stock radio still works. In fact, it wasn't until just recently that I bought a shop manual for the car ad learned of the warning. Still, just to be safe, I would suggest checking the users manual that came with the car if you still have it.

Remove the covers to your 1997 radio speakers. Remove the radio speaker retaining screws. Remove the wiring harness from the back of the radio speakers. Reverse the process to install your new radio speakers.
The 1989-1993 Miata came with a 1.6L DOHC and made around 120 hp. The 1994-1998 Miata came with a 1.8L DOHC and made around 131 hp. The 1999-2005 Miata came with a (updated) 1.8L DOHC and made around 142 hp. The 2006-present Miata came with a 2.0L DOHC and made around 170 hp.
