Raise the front of the car by either using ramps or a jack stands.
2. I used Mobil-1 0W-40 since it complies with VW standards.
3. You need to remove the lower cover, a standard torx bit would do.
4. Here is a picture of the rear drain plug and the oil filter housing
5. Remove the oil cap on the top of the engine. Drain the oil by removing the drain plug, be careful since it can be hot. To make this easier, run the engine before hand, since hot oil will flow easier.
6. This is the drain plug, notice the washer is part of it and can not be replaced. The dealer told me the drain plug can be reused and should be replaced every third oil change.
Screw back after the oil has been drained out of the engine.
7. To make my life easier, I bought a 74/76mm oil filter cup. It works like a charm
8. Drain the old oil by pushing in the little nob on the filter housing (you have to remove the small cap to see it)
9. Remove the filter housing using the filter cup
10. Replace the o-ring inside the filter housing, the new oil filter should come with it.
11. Insert the new filter cartridge.
12. Screw back the filter housing to 25Nm tq.
13. Pour new oil (6.2qts)
14. Check oil level
15. Start engine and check for leaks.
Reset Oil Light (Wrench)
1) Press and HOLD the trip-odometer button "0.0".
2) Turn your key on.
3) Release the trip-odometer button.
4) Push and release the Clock Minute Set Button "min".
More detailed version:
1. Keys out of ignition- press and hold in trip odometer reset button "0.0" on right hand side of display
2. Still holding this button down, insert key into ignition and put to the on position without starting the car.
3. Display will read "service now"
4. let go of the "0.0" button and depress the "m" button on the left hand side of the display. this will re-set the service reminder. There is no confirmation on the display other than the words "service now" will disappear.
You can confirm that the service reminder has been reset, or check how many miles/days remain until service at any time by taking key out of the ignition and holding in the trip reset"0.0" button for between 3 and 5 seconds. The MFD will display miles and hours until next service.

Should be approx. 4.5L with an oil filter change. I recommend using Shell rotella 15w-40 oil. -1991 Diesel Jetta/1986 Diesel Golf/ 1985 Gas Jetta owner
top up the oil or change the oil sender unit ???
A 2005 Jetta holds 5.1 Quarts of oil. It is recommended when changing oil to check the dipstick when refilling as all of the oil may not drain, so you don't overfill.
4L with filter change
Answer:A 1994 Jetta with 2.0 4 cyl engine takes 3.7 quarts of oil without changing the oil filter. With the filter change it is 4.2 Quarts. The 2.8 V6 engine takes 5.3 quarts of oil without the filter change. With the filter change it takes 5.8 Quarts. I recomment changing the engine oil filter with every oil change.
