Betta's are prone to jumping out of the bowl when it is filled right to the top. You betta probably jumped because it was trying to explore its surroundings, and didntr realize that outside of its bowl was not a safe area for a fish. Preventing bettas from jumping out is as simple as leaving 2-3" of the bowl unfilled in the future.

Your Betta will probably die soon because he is being poisoned by the water he is being kept in. A Bowl is no place to keep any fish. The use of one could have been excused in the 1800s and the early 1900s because of the lack of education and so much ignorance in what fish need in order to live. In this century of good education and enlightenment there is no excuse for such cruelty. The basic rules for keeping any fish successfully are as follows. 1 inch of fish must have at least 1 gallon of water. (A Betta is a 3 inch fish so it needs at least 3 gallons.) Every tank must have a permanently running 'cycled' filter. Every tank must have at least 50% of its water replaced every week.

Yes, Betta fish do jump out of their bowls because it gets a bit restrictive if the bowl is of less than 15L capacity. I am told they jump because they see a reflection on the surface of the water and hence try to attack the reflection. An easy way around this would be to make a lid for the bowl and put holes in the lid to allow for air to go in and out.

Is it okay if you boil water before putting it in your betta's bowl?

Its ok as long as you let the water cool to room temperature before adding the water back to the bowl, or adding the betta to the water. Also, it is completely unnesseary to boil before putting in your betta's bowl.

How long can a betta fish last without having any water?

Bettas breathe air from the surface of their bowl so it really depends on the humidity of the area that the betta is in when it is out of its bowl. If the betta's body stays well moisturized I'm convinced they can at least live two days out of water (conditions permitting).

Do betta fish shed?

If you are using tap water for the bowl without conditioner parts of the betta will start to "shed". If you aren't using conditioner then I recommend to go to a pet store and get "betta fish conditioner" that protects against tap water.
