Does not use Freon. Uses R-134. Take it to an A/C expert, where they will find the leak and repair before recharging the system. It is illegal to add refrigerant without fixing the leak.

How much freon do you put in the air conditioning unit of a 1999 Chevy Suburban 1500?

There is no set amount. You or a technician need to put a high & low pressure gauge on your vehicle to determine the amount of Freon still in the system. Then, add more until you reach the factory specs. A good shop manual will tell you that.

The only decent way is to take it to a shop and have them "vacuum" the system. Most parts stores do sell a flushing fluid that is put in just like freon. Follow the directions.
