A fever is your body's way of cooking an infection out of you. You can handle heat much better than bacteria and viruses can. It is a way of de-toxing. Sweat, even lots of sweat is very good for you! It gets all kinds of toxins out of the body and not just bacteria and viruses either. This idea that all fevers must be brought down is a way that drug companies have of selling more medication to make money. Best to be grateful your body can run a fever and ride it out. You don't want infections to do more damage. The sooner an infection is cooked out of you the better. Let your immune system do its job! Think of it as a free sauna! Same with diarrhea. If there is something in your gut that needs to come out, your body knows this. Why, oh why, would you want poisons to stay INSIDE OF YOU?! Let what is making you sick get out of you! You are getting a free colon cleanse! It is your body trying to de-tox and it is doing for free what people pay lots of money to do!

Get a chilled pack and put it on your forehead. Then take a warm shower and dry yourself before putting your clothes on. Put a nice warm top on and long trousers. If you are going out and it is slightly cold, wear a sweater and a jacket. If you aren't, lie down and rest. You should be fine by the next morning. (Even by the afternoon)

To handle a fever is a skill and that involve the simple physics and some Biology. You can give some fever lowering drug like paracetamol to the patient, if he can take it. Then you expose the patient as much as you can. Cover the body with a cloth, socked in tepid water. Start the fan vigorously. You can use the cold water on limbs. Transfer the heat with the help of piece of cloth to the water filled in bucket. The temperature of water should be ideally 20 degree Celsius. Very cold water will constrict the blood vessels and thereby prevent further cooling of body. So the skin temperature is very less and core temperature will be very high. In very high fever you have to immerse the patient in water of twenty degree Celsius as per text books. But in practice tepid water is found to be better, specially in dry climate. It is comfortable for the patient. In wet climate, there is no alternative to cold water.

Can dogs get Flu?

Not the human flu, but dogs are susceptible to the canine version of colds and flu (which are caused by different things) The canine flu shows symptoms very close to kennel cough but they ARE NOT the same thing. The canine flu is almost the same as horse flu, and dog flu can be described as H3N8. many dogs recover within a few weeks on their own, beware that dogs may not show symptoms but are still contagious to other dogs. Humans and dogs can not transmit flu from each other, they are different strains.
