hold f11 during startup, when the recovery screen comes up, choose advanced options then destructive recovery. it will prompt you to back up all files before doing so as this will wipe it fully. sit back and grab a case of cold ones, its gonna take a while.

What is the benefit of partitioning your drive?

Partitioning allows you to create a logical separation between different operating systems and data. For example, you could have a windows operating system on one partition, a Linux operating system on another partition, and your personal data (My Documents in windows and /home in Linux) on a third. This allows you to wipe one of your partitions clean and reformat without having to backup the data on the others (say for example, your windows install gets a virus).

Can you wipe your hardrive without rebooting your computer?

Insert hard drive CD when you start up your computer. Check box when it asks you if you want to delete and re-use your hard drive. When completed, insert your OS CD, and money in the bank... if you want a quick re-format, dont insert the hard drive CD on startup.. just insert the OS CD on start up.. it will do a quick reformat that will give you results until you can find your hard drive CD if you dont have one. You can also use DBAN or wipedrive - both these free and paid for products will erase / wipe your hard drive to DOD standards. Be more specific please. If you mean deleting all the files, the best method i would suggest is to reinstall the OS.

How can you reformat a gateway notebook running windows xp pro that has novell client for windows installed?

You might not need to reformat. You could try just uninstalling the Novell Client, by going to the properties of the Network adapter. If you do want / need to reformat, you should do it with the original disk that came with the computer. Sometimes the EULA key will not work with other manufacturer's CD.

Toshiba power up error F3-F200-0002?

Boot any bootable OS(with a partition manager) from a USB stick or DVD and reformat your HDD to NTFS, then try a clean install. Alternatively you could insert the HDD into another computer to reformat it, if you're not known with bootable operating systems. If this does not work you might need to replace the HDD.

Do you have to reformat when installing an operating system?

No, there is no requirement of reformatting when installing an operating system as you can install more than one operating system on a samePC. So there is no requirement of formatting the older one, even if you are installing a single new operating system only. Then also there is no requirement of reformatting again, formatting decreases the life of PC. ANSWER: Formatting does not decrease the life of your PC. The statement above is correct in that it is not necessary to format before installing an operating system. However, if you are doing a fresh install, formatting gives you a "clean slate" to install the new operating system. Attain the older one, even if you are installing a single new operating system only , then also there is no requirement of reformatting again, formatting decreases the life of PC. GOOD ANSWER: You do not reformat a PC you reformat a Hard Drive Disk. Whether or not you need to reformat your HDD depends on the operating system you wish to install. Some operating systems require different formats like NTFS or FAT32 so sometimes you need to reformat. You can also have more then one operating system on your HDD but to do this you must create a partition. A partition is a reserved area on the HDD which you can dedicate to different things depending on your needs. Generally, when you are installing an operating system you will have to reformat your HDD or create a partition for the operating system to run on. It does not decrease the life of your PC but sometimes during the reformatting process a few megabites will be lost... nothing serious. Most OSes require one partition to be formatted, but that is why you can create multiple partitions.

If you switched from OS 98 to 2000 and now want to switch back how do you reformat your computer?

If you've format your hdd using NTFS, then you need a windows 98 bootdisk to startup, run fdisk.exe and choose Y to treat NTFS as large disk. delete the NTFS partition and recreate the FAT32 partition. Then restart, format the HDD and install Win98.

Reformatting is a destructive process that removes all data on a drive or partition. So yes. There is usually no need to reformat the system, however, just do a repair installation instead.
