Release the tension using a wrench etc from the idler pulley.
Disconnect the 1982 Regal alternator. Loosen the alternator bolts and slide to release belt tension. Put new belt on ( you may have to remove other belts to gain access) and pull the alternator sideways to put medium tension on the belt while tightening the bolts. Reconnect the battery.
i need to change my alternator belt and don't know where the tension wheel is so i can take off the other belt to replace the alternator belt on my 94 Mazda protege 1.6l
By loosening the tension on the alternator nut
Apply a wrench to the center bolt on the pully and turn it will adjust the tension.
You must first loosen the alternator, do not remove it. remove the alternator tension screws top and loosen the bottom screws DO NOT REMOVE push the alternator toward engine, for the a/c belt you must loosen the belt tension pulley and move it. replace in reverse order
"First Remove the Tension bolt from the alternator and remove." "Next take a hammer and gently tap the alternator down" "Do the same with the Tension Mount" "After realigning the alternator and the Tension mount replace the bolt" "BE CAREFUL NOT TOO TIGHT ON THE BELT OR YOU WILL RUIN THE BEARINGS" "GOOD LUCK"
The 93 Acclaim has a serpentine belt. The tensioner below the alternator is what keeps the tension. If you have not tension I would replace the belt first and then check the tensioner.
loosen the tension on the belt with the tension pulley, remove the belt then disconnect your wires from the alternator then take the 3-4 bolts, holding the alternator on, off. then do the opposite to put the new one back on
loosen the serpretine belt tension and remove the two bolt that hold the alternator
Disconnect the NEGATIVE battery cable at battery. Then you will have to release the tension on the serpentine belt there is a belt tensioner that requires a 22mm wrench to release the belt. Then disconnect wire HARNESS CONNECTOR on back of alternator & remove mounting bolts.Assemble in reverse order.
The tension bolt should not be removed. The four bolts holding the alternator in place need to be removed, the loosening tension bolt will give enough slack to get the belt off.
