Most likely there is a spring loaded device called a belt tensioner. There is a pulley on it with a bolt or square inset in it. sometime a socket or 3/8" drive extention can be used to move the pulley and release the tension on the belt.
The cost to replace a 1999 Mazda Protege serpentine belt will vary depending on the cost of parts and cost of labor. The prices for the serpentine belt start at $14.56.
i need to change my alternator belt and don't know where the tension wheel is so i can take off the other belt to replace the alternator belt on my 94 Mazda protege 1.6l
Attach a deep socket and extension bar to the handle of the rachet for more leverage?
Serpentine belt diagran 2003 mazda 6
I am assuming you are meaning the serpentine belt? draw ALL THE PULLEYS on a piece of paper and the bely route, (i draw it on the engine somewhere with a permanet marker) look for the tensioner pully and use the correct means (wrench or ratchet) to push it toward your dash to release the tension and proceed to remove the belt. re route the new correct size belt per your correct diagram and release the tension again to fit the belt into place and let the belt tension... then give her the onion you shouls be good. if you are asking timing belt good luck.
powersteering belt off first, then water pump, each has its own ten.
you have to loosen a bolt on the front of the AC compressor, I think its a 12mm. You loosen it and the the AC compressor will then be able to rotate downward, sometimes the compressor gets stuck with age and you might need to tap it down with a mallet. Once the compressor rotates downward the tension in the belt will be gone and you can change the belt. Then tighten the same bolt until you achieve the desired tension
This is from the Owners Handbook of my Mazda 323, 1996 : Alternator Drive Belt. 1. Loosen the alternator mounting bolt and adjusting bar bolt. Replace Fanbelt. 2. Turn the adjusting bolt until the correct tension is obtained. The deflexion should be 10mm. 3. Tighten bolts and recheck the tension.
This year Mazda protege does not have a serpentine belt. It has two belts, one for the alternator/water pump, and the other for the power steering and a/c.
The tension bolt should not be removed. The four bolts holding the alternator in place need to be removed, the loosening tension bolt will give enough slack to get the belt off.
There are four types of belts on a 1997 Mazda Millenia S. There are 4 seatbelts, a timing belt, a serpentine or drive belt, and a fan belt. Please refer to your owners manual for instructions on how to replace them. If you do not have an owners manual, you may purchase one through Amazon.com
remove the valve cover, followed by the power steering pump. After that you will have full view of the serpentine belt. ps: all the other belts have to come off before the serpertine belt goes in. It is a 3-4 hour job.
