How do you remove the dash board on a 1991 mr2 to change the bulbs on the speedo fuel gauge etc?
1. Start at the gear shifter and remove the plasic housing. 2. Next remove the plastic housing around radio/ ignition. 3. remove drivers side under panels (plastic housing under stearing column). Also remove the housing around the stearing column. You may have to reach back and remove two bolts that hold the stearing column at bay. (Mine had a tilt wheel that allowed enough wiggle room to remove dash guage cluster without removing these.) 4. remove screws that hold the gauge cluster. The gauge cluster should then be able to pull out about 1 or 2 inches. That should be enough room to use an angled needle nose to pinch and remove the speedometer cable from the right side (should see a black cable.) You may have to give a slight twist but be sure to depress the tab lock when grabbing with the pliers. 5. The gauge cluster should then pull out 5 to 6 inches. This is enough to disconnect the rest of the (3) cables connected at the rear. Once these are disconnected the cluster should slide right out. I recommend replacing all the bulbs while you have the gauge cluster out. A nice touch is to replace with LEDs. 6. GO SLOW! as not to crack these pastic parts when removing. Jesus Saves!

Yes, if you get into the trunk or back of the station wagon, you have to find the plate that is held with on phillips screw. Remove that plate, then you will see five 8mm bolts. Remove them and pull the fuel gauge sending unit out enough to get your hose in there. Syphon away.

The black plastic bezel snaps off around the instrument cluster if you use a flat plastic lever. Harbor Freight sells a set of plastic levers for cheap that do the job well. Down under the steering wheel there are some plastic panels that will need to be removed that hide some screws that allow you to remove the gauge cluster. I would recommend swapping the whole cluster with another from a junk yard, rather than trying to disassemble the cluster. Be careful disconnecting the speedometer cable. You have to slide your hand behind the cluster and pinch the end of the cable close to the back of the cluster and pull it off. The rest of the connectors simply pull off when you pinch them. The typical problem with a bad gauge is a bad voltage regulator on the cluster, which is one of the reason I suggest just using a junk part. It could also be a bad sender in the tank, as well.
