Squeeze the sides together and it will come out of slots that hold it, allow it to fall open and disconnect the "arm" that prevents it from falling all the way open. Lift up and out, No tools are needed. (empty it out out or all you stuff will fall on floor.you can't get it out without spilling contents.) Just a side note: if you are asking because you want to change the cabin air filter it is not necessary to takeit all the way off

Behind the glove box, remove the screw a the right of the glove box and pull gently.
First you are going to remove the passenger side kick panel then the rocker plastic piece. from there you need to remove the glove box. open te glove box remove the 3 skrews where the striker is the there are two 10mm hex head bolts that need removal. then remove glove box assembly and now you have full access to the blower motor
Take out the glove box compartment. You'll see it.

The cabin air filter is located behind the glove box, you will have to remove the glove box, behind the glove box is a cover about 1" high and 7" long, remove that cover and you will see a tray that holds the cabin air filter, remove the tray and you can replace the paper cabin air filter, I recomend using a Toyota cabin air filter, the Toyota cabin air filter is a HEPA air filter and is available at any Toyota dealer for about $ 30
